A crossing is a journey across a border, a meeting point between people, and a moment of transition from one world to another. The name holds together the life journeys of North Korean diasporas, peacebuilding across the divided Korean Peninsula, the experiences of migrants and refugees, and the crossings we all now make between human and digital worlds, from AI literacy to the ethics of emerging technologies. Crossings shares research-based conversations on citizenship and human rights education, migration and refugee experiences, peacebuilding on the Korean Peninsula, and the digital transformation of learning. Each episode turns rigorous scholarship into stories that cross borders.

Dr. Stella Micheong Cheong, 정미정
Stella Mi-cheong Cheong, Ph.D. is a research professor at Yonsei University, and she was awarded the PhD degree in citizenship and human rights education from Institute of Education, University College London (UCL)'s Faculty of Education and Society, as well as she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. She has completed several research projects relating to international development, curriculum reforms, human capacity development, AI in Education, technology facilitated violence, conflict and peace studies as well as refugee and diaspora studies funded by UNICEF, UNESCO, ADB, IDB, UniKorea Foundation and the Korean Ministry of Education. She is also founder and host of the conversations4citizenship podcast.
Her teaching and research involve examining complex relations between human rights education, international development, conflict and peace studies, digital peacebuilding, comparative migration studies, AI in Education and participatory qualitative research. She is a co-author of 'Exploring Contemporary Challenges in Global Politics and Society (2024)', 'Shaping Tomorrow with AI: A Human-Centred Revolution for All (AI와 함께하는 내일 : 모두를 위한 따뜻한 혁명, 2025)'and 'Applying Generative Artificial Intelligence in Adult, Vocational and Workplace Education (Forthcoming 2026, Palgrave Macmillan).' In 2025, Dr. Cheong is currently leading a series of interdisciplinary research projects, including Exploring the Drivers of Online Hate Speech on Social Media Platforms through the Philosophy of Otherness; Investigating the Motivations behind Malicious Online Comments and Developing a Korean Digital Citizenship Education Framework; Reframing Quantum Literacy in Higher Education; Digital Transformation and Adult Literacy: A Comparative Study of Korea and Japan; and Becoming Bridge Citizens: Migration Rhythms and Life Trajectories of North Korean Diasporans. She is a council member of the Asia Pacific Peace Research Association, convenor of the Asia Privacy Bridge Forum and a committee member of the New Scholars Committee, Comparative and International Education Society (CIES). Dr Adam Peter Lang
Dr Adam Peter Lang , UCL , is an experienced leader in urban education with a wide range of successful involvement in developments globally, in London ( The London Challenge) and the UK . He is a published academic and travel writer , now an active post doctoral scholar at UCL researching and teaching on Citizenship programmes. Adam’s research interests include school leadership, policy enactment and citizenship. His doctoral thesis (UCL 2022) examined the sensitive issue of counter-Terrorism policy and schools, looking at how ,the ‘Prevent duty ‘ plays out and impacts on schools and colleges in England.He has contributed in a number of forums to the debate on this controversial policy including the recent Independent Commission on U.K. Counter-Terrorism, Law, Policy and Practice( Nov 2025).
Dr. Lang is very interested and has significant experience and understanding of how policy is created , implemented and enacted. Adam can view policy as a practitioner, researcher and creator. Adam has presented at a number of academic conferences and seminars including in Italy, the US as well as at UCL, BERA and BELMAS in the U.K. At present he has been invited and is involved with Ruskin College, Oxford in a range of projects.
Adam regularly speaks, writes and comments in the Media on education issues particularly LBC radio in the U.K. He is Co-founder & Co-presenter on the innovative podcast #conversations4citizenship focusing on contemporary international geo-political citizenship issues and topics. Now in its 5th season. He was elected in May 2022 as a Labour Party local councillor in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and was lead member for culture & art . He is very active within the Labour movement . He was recently asked by the Local Authority to review, research and write a report on its present library provision and the challenges and opportunities for the future , making recommendations. Dr. Kamille Beye
Dr. Kamille Beye is a honorary post doctoral research fellow at the Institute of Education, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society. Her passion for education is displayed through her research interests which include: analysing critical thinking in post-conflict countries with an emphasis of how student-centred learning is taught, the intersectionality between education, access, gender, and race, defining global citizenship through post-colonialism, and teacher training instruction in active-learning methods. She has previously worked in international development where she focused on education issues in Africa.

Hanna Kim
Designer Hanna Kim is pursuing her Bachelor’s degrees in Sinographic Literatures and Industrial Information Design from Korea University, has maintained a deep interest in exploring user-centric values and the underlying depth of their needs, based on a humanistic perspective that investigates the fundamental causes of phenomena rather than merely seeking fixed answers. By projecting this inquisitive spirit into her work, she pursues UX/UI design that goes beyond creating simple visual outputs to deeply analyze the essence of user context and experience.
During her university years, she documented the value of communication through art while leading content planning and publication design as an editor and designer for the youth arts magazine ‘Dear.A’. Currently, as a design intern at Yonsei University's Barun ICT Research Center , she is responsible for optimizing research participation flows and establishing intuitive information architectures for the ‘Becoming Bridge Citizens’ project website.
